Getting paid to read email

There are many different ways you can make money online and what exactly you get into and to what extent will determine how much money you can make.

The easiest way to make money online is with Get Paid To Read email programs (GPTR). There are many companies that will pay you simply to click on ads and visit websites. The first thing I will tell you about these programs is that you will not get rich or even earn a living with them. You can however make a few extra dollars a month just for reading email and clicking links.

The way they work is the GPTR programs get people to sign up for their program that are willing to read emails for money. Then they sell advertising to businesses that want their ads read by a ready and willing audience. Then the GPTR program sends out emails to it's members with an advertisement and a link to click that will take you to the advertiser's website. When you click on the link you see the advertiser's website and get credited with whatever the GPTR program is paying. It could be anything from a tenth of a cent to several cents per ad click. Obviously they charge the advertiser more than they pay the member and they get the difference as profit and to cover the costs of running the program.

You will find that most programs have a "minimum payout." That is, you have to earn a minimum amount in your account before you can actually get the money in your hand. You will also find, if you go looking for these programs, that there are some that will promise you several cents or more per email. My advice is, don't believe it. If you read the terms and conditions of the program you will find that to get paid, you have to reach a minimum payout level of $100 or more. It's not likely that anyone will stick with it long enough to actually get paid when the level is that high. It's also doubtful that the program will stay in business long enough to actually pay anyone (if that was even their intention from the start). A lot of the programs with very high payout amounts are scams.

Most of the legitimate programs have a payout minimum that is $10 or less and many are $1 or less. If you want to get involved with these programs, I recommend that you stick with the lowest payout minimum programs that you can find. That way you will be able to get paid in the shortest amount of time and with some programs, you can get paid every month.

All of the programs have an affiliate system. This is really the only way you can make anything more than pocket change per month in these programs. You build a downline in every program you join. In other words, you would have to get a number of other people to join the program from your referral link. You earn not only for your own activity but also the activity of your downline. The average person that gets into this will recruit perhaps a dozen or so other members into the program. Some people however, get into it big and join dozens of these programs and actively recruit using an opt-in mailing list and end up getting hundreds in their downline. These folks are obviously going to make more money than the average person but still not enough to quit their job.

The main problem with these programs is that a lot of them fail for any number of reasons and a lot of people don't get the money they are owed. That is why you want to stay away from the programs with the high payout minimum.

I joined many of these programs when I first got started on the internet and believe me, there have been many of them that I didn't get paid from. Some went out of business for any number of legitimate reasons and there were some that were run by unscrupulous people that started the program as a scam and never intended to pay out to anyone ever. Unfortunately, it's very hard to tell until it's too late. They just fold up their tents and disappear. Not even so much as an email of explanation to their members.

The other problem with these programs is that they have fallen out of favor with advertisers and without people to buy the ads, there won't be any emails for you to read to get paid. Most of the advertisers were people that were trying to build a downline in their program. They wanted signups but most of the people in the GPTR program were just wanting to get paid for reading the email and didn't sign up for the advertiser's program. If they don't get signups, they quit using the GPTR programs to advertise.

One of the things you will notice is that some of the programs send a lot of emails out but they aren't regular ads. They are links to paid search engines and you will have to click on the link in the email, then do a search, then click on a result to get paid for the email. Depending on your connection speed, this can take far more time than it's worth, but if you want to spend the time, you can get paid for it. A lot of the Get Paid To programs started doing this when the regular advertisers started to dwindle.

That is the point we are at now. A lot of the GPTR programs that are still around are barely making it and most either went out of business or raised their payout minimum to try and tread water until they can sell more ads.

With all that said, in reality you are not really risking anything by joining these programs and trying them out. They are free to join so you don't put any money at risk. You simply might put in a little time and effort and may not get paid if they fold up. The only thing you really lose is the time you spent. It's just a question of if you think it's even worth the bother to join, read, click, etc. for the pennies that they pay.

If you're serious about a home business and really want to make money online, you may not want to bother with these programs but move on to programs with more potential like affiliate programs or even paid surveys which you can make more money at than paid email.

If however, you're just looking for an easy way to make a little extra money for the least amount of effort, getting paid to read email may be the thing for you. Here are a couple of companies that have a good reputation and pay promptly:

Cast For Action is a program with a very low payout minimum (11 cents for payment by PayPal) so you can get paid every month or nearly so just on you own efforts. They are still sending a fairly steady supply of emails so you can make a little with them. They also have "get paid to accept offers" which is where they pay you a bounty to sign up for something or join something. If it's something you want to join, some of the offers pay up to $10 or more just to join.

Quick Rewards is a good program that incorporates paid email, surveys and more. They send out emails but with this program it pays to log into the site regularly because there is a lot more on the website than only doing the paid emails.

After you go to each site, you just simply click the link to join and fill out the form. They will send you a confirmation email to validate your email address. Just follow the directions in the email and that's all there is to it. They will then start sending you emails with paid links in them so you can start earning money.

Don't forget, most of the GPTR email programs will pay using PayPal which is the most well known and widely used online payment method.  It's free to start a personal account and very easy to use. I recommend you start an account with them first so when you are filling out the information in the join forms, you can tell them your PayPal address so you don't forget to add it later. If they don't have a method to pay you, believe me, they won't and I assume you want to get paid, right?

If you want to find more of these programs to join, I suggest you check out 2 sites that monitor this industry for scams and you can find out what programs are good and which ones to watch out for.

The first one is GPTBoycott and they have listings of a lot of the bad programs. They have a lot of good information on their site and also a forum where you can get up to date comments on what other people's experiences are with the programs they are in.

GPTBoycott.Com - Fighting The Get-Paid-To... Scams!

The other site has information on the good programs that are paying and they also have a forum. It's called BeenPaid. I highly recommend going to both of these sites before you  join any GPTR programs not listed on my site. It can save you a lot of time and trouble.

Now I will tell you how to get a pay raise (dollars instead of pennies) and that's by getting paid to take surveys. Click here to find out about paid surveys.
